Tasmania in Two Days | Travel Australia

Stress Free Guide to Tasmania | Hobart + Surroundings

Yep, you read that right… a trip to Tasmania in TWO DAYS!

People often exclaim to me ‘how do you get so many days off/ travel to so many places/ you never seem to work…but the thing is… I do. Many people are hesitant to travel to new destinations fearing that they neither have the time nor want to prioritise their treasured annual leave on certain destinations. But I am here to share with you how I make the most of my annual leave and precious free time to use it to its extent.

Wanna know more…? Keep reading.

Tasmania

Tasmania is on the doorstep to mainland Australia and if you live or are travelling here – it is well worth the visit!

Historically rich, and exceptionally beautiful, it is the perfect weekend get away for those looking for some peaceful tranquility after a busy week in the office.

What to visit in two days?

Fly into Hobart on the Friday night after work in order you are able to rise early for the first part of your two days in Tassie!

Salamanca markets

I would highly recommend staying in West/ South Hobart and renting a car from the airport.

Day 1: Salamanca Markets

The Salamanca Markets (Saturday) are the perfect opening to your weekend in Tasmania. Fly into Hobart the night before and find a hotel/ air bnb in this part of town and rise early for these wonderful local market.

Salamanca markets

Go hungry, there is plenty to try, and be sure to queue up for the incredible coffee that is served in and amongst the stalls.

If you happen to come across the salmon sausage van…these sausages will change your life!

  • Food
  • Coffee
  • Local produce

Day 1: Bruny Island

When you have topped up with the nourishing market treats and have woken up the engine with delicious local coffee… hop into a rental car and head South to your next stop Bruny Island.

Tasmania Bruny Island Travel Tips

Absolutely stunning and mesmerising in its peacefulness. Bruny island is a short ferry ride away to a gorgeous island rich in nature, vineyards and artisanal outlets.

Stop for local cheese tastings, vineyards and coffee as you head to the most southernly lookouts across the Ocean and the most incredible lighthouse where you can see the miles into the great blue.

Bruny Island Travel Tips

On your way back North of the island make sure to stop to re-nourish and refuel at Bruny Wine and Cider which serve incredible meals (alongside wine tasting) as you head back towards the Ferry.

Day 1: Mount Wellington Sunset

Time the sunset correctly to give yourself enough time to head from Bruny Island back to Mouth Wellington to watch the incredible Sunset from the highest point of the Mountain.

Be sure to take a jumper… it is windy!!

Hobart

That is the end of Day 1. Once back in Hobart you are spoilt for great restaurants and places to eat. One of my favs to visit is Franks’s – excellent cocktails and an absolutely DIVINE menu!

Cyntra Charlesworth

Day 2: Mona

Mona

Set your alarm early to head out and grab some brunch. We headed to the Salamanca Wharf Cafe to load up on local salmon and eggs before jumping in the car to head to Mona Museum.

MONA – Museum of Old and New Art is a mostly-underground art museum with a playful vibe & a wine bar on the Moorila Winery grounds.

Mona

Their website describes Mona as Mona: a museum, or something. In Tasmania, or somewhere. Catch the ferry. Drink beer. Eat cheese. Talk crap about art. You’ll love it.

And that is pretty much all I am going to share… but let me tell you something… if you do not go… YOU HAVE MISSED OUT.

Port Arthur

If you are dedicating yourself to do Tasmania in one weekend then this is your opportunity to do Mona and Port Arthur in a day.

Bangor Estate
Bangor Estate, Port Arthur

You will need a car and dedication!

Set the sat nav for Port Arthur which is at the very South of Tassie. To make the drive a more fun trip there are some excellent Vineyards (Bangor Shed was a personal Fav) and Chocolate Factories on the way.

Port Arthur

Once you arrive at Port Arthur, take your time to do the tours, boat ride and explore the historically relevant Port at this southernly point of Tassie.

Tasmania in two days!

So there you have it! How to make the most of the laid back Aussie state without taking too much time out of your annual leave!

Things to remember:

Do’s

  • Get a flight out Friday afternoon to make the most of your first evening and day
  • Rent a car from the airport
  • Chat to the locals – Tazzie’s are super friendly and great with advice
  • Its colder down there – so pack warmer clothes! Its like British weather there
  • Leave your busy schedule and fast paced lifestyle behind and come with an open mind to relax and take in the views

Don’t

  • Try and do the whole island – its huge
  • Uber isn’t really as popular as in mainland – so plan ahead

Breakfast: Healthy on the Go

Travelling for work can sometimes be tricky while trying to follow your lifestyle rules. I don’t know about you but a lot of breakfast places I go to is the usual death by carbs or rush by sugar.

Many of us do our best to lead a healthy lifestyle but succumb to the poor choices available in most commuter stations.

I have been doing a bit of research and about the most important meal of the day and have tracked down my favourite healthy breakfasts on the go from some well-known chains.

I have given a Lean Option and a Good carbs alternative.

fit'eggs spinach                  superseed supreme

ITSU:

Yes, you read this right – our favourite sushi chain! Well ITSU has now brought out a breakfast range that is full of delicious and healthy breakfasts.

You can choose from Supreme Superseded: a delicious and hearty bowl of seedy jumbo oats sweetened with agave to the lean options of Fit Eggs: Poached eggs in miso soup with tofu and spinach. This one is low carb and great for those who are on a low carb on training day.

These can all be found in many train stations throughout the UK. Pair with a big bottle of water and an americano and that right there is the perfect start to the day.

PRET:

Pret is a great stop for brekkie – once you see past all the carb-loaded sandwiches, baguette and every other white based wheat loaded item on their shelves.
They have a 5 -Grain Porridge which is vegan and gluten-free. This means for those of you who dairy intolerant or wheat intolerant you can enjoy this with no risks.

Apart from that it gets a bit more difficult for a standard breakfast with Pret as most of their products come in a brioche or croissant but you can pull together a lean option by grabbing an Egg and Spinach pot and one of their fruit pots.

Pair this with a green juice and an Americano. Breakfast of champions.

VIRGIN TRAINS:

The fastest train! On here they do have some good gluten-free options – if you ask.

Travelling First Class: Ask for gluten-free alternatives when they take your order – if you do not ask you will not get

Travelling standard: There are gluten-free packs available in the shop on board.

There is also a hummus and crudite option and occasionally fruit. It is nothing special but if you are in a rush and do not have the time it is available. They also have soy milk too for dairy-free alternatives.

Vega Protein:

If I am getting up really early in the morning for a long trip I will quite often bring a protein shake with me. The delicious Vega Essentials Proteins from Vega can be mixed with water on the go and is so tasty and delicious snack that keeps you fuller for longer.

It’s tasty and completely Organic and Clean. This company really makes sure they go beyond to make sure that everything in their Proteins is Organic, Natural and Delicious.

Check them out online or Instagram for more info.

Travelling

for work shouldn’t have to make poor food choices and see the pounds creep on. Careful planning and a little extra time to research you can maintain all your goals without having to spend much money or be unsatisfied.

What are your favourite places to grab brekkie on the go! Share with me as I would like to check it out.

Q&A with Symmetry Breakfast

This week I had the absolute privilege of meeting the founder, visionary and chef behind Symmetry Breakfast.

The inspirational Michael hosted a Q&A nestled on the 3rd floor of Soho House 76.

symmetry breakfast

As I have been an avid fan and borderline stalker of this account it was wonderful to meet the face behind the creation. Michael’s Q&A was brilliant; Open, honest, witty and insightful.

Naturally I turned up with a handful of questions… here is a sneak insight into the Q&A

How did Symmetry Breakfast first come about?

Symmetry Breakfast was born when Michaels partner Mark moved in with him. After re-arranging their apartment and gaining a new dining table (the table seen in the photos) Symmetry Breakfast came to life.

What was the first breakfast?

A plane meal (giggles all around the audience)

What was Michaels Inspiration?

With a Chinese and Scottish background – Michael grew up with Chinese food and Deep Fried Mars bars… Michael was fascinated with what other people know as normal? What is normal for people? Learning and discovering the traditions of where food comes from inspired him to create a new breakfast every single morning… with NO REPEATS

An original breakfast everyday for 685 days…How do you make sure you never repeat a breakfast?

Michael has a map which he uses to inspire all his breakfasts. He simply looks at the map to determine where his breakfast travels will take him. Discovering, researching and creating to bring us a Symmetrical Breakfast each morning.

What camera do you use?

Iphone 5s

(can you believe it!?!?!)

What winds you up the most?

Outright copying.

There is a difference between people being inspired by Symmetry Breakfast and those who simply copy.

Michael has a wonderful way with words and delightfully explained this “Imagine if someone copied what you wore to work everyday…but badly!”

Tips for creating a foodie blog:

“remember its not a 40 hour week, it’s a 100 hour week! I am always thinking about food”

Don’t be a consumer – create

Go to every event – you must sell yourself, your personality, don’t be shy

Keep your personality alive

Love you community

Create your own events

Parting advice from Symmetry Breakfast…

If you give and give and give it will always come back to you”

Well that wraps up all the questions and answers I have for you. I really suggest you check out the instagram Symmetry Breakfast and also look out for the book which will be coming out shortly.

Behind the book Michael will be focusing on breakfasts from around the world educating us all to what people on this earth wake up to everyday.

I’ll update you when the book comes out in store!
